Background Statement on Tennessee School
for the Blind

Since 1844 the Tennessee School for the Blind has existed for the purpose of providing blind and visually challenged students opportunities to discover and develop their potential for a happy, self-fulfilling, and productive life. The program is designed around a diversified curriculum addressing a broad spectrum of educational needs of students ranging from 4 to 22 years of age. In addition to academic learning, the program teaches, trains, and/or equips students with special skills, techniques, and methods needed in order to function at their optimal level in society. TSB is a residential campus, with approximately 160 students enrolled annually.
