Library Initiatives

Over a period of several years, Friends of TSB funded the implementation of a fully functional electronic library catalog for the TSB Library. Through our generous donors, Friends was able to complete multiple upgrades necessary for the TSB Library to meet current standards, including the purchase and implementation of an electronic system, which required cataloging of the library’s more than 20,000 holdings into a database accessible to TSB students through special adaptive equipment. Our thanks to Library Project Manager Valerie Dennison for her dedication to this project and the many hours she devoted to its realization.

The library's features now include:

• Multi-user library management functions on a client/server platform

• Full catalog search capability (author, title, grade level, subject) on a browser-based platform (eg. Internet Explorer) - also known as OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog)

• Ability to support cataloging and access to digital media materials (eg. WebBraille)

• Support of voice output for student-driven catalog searches

• Z39.50 client standard to allow search and save of records in remote libraries (eg. NLS)

• Support of voice output for student-driven catalog searches

• Circulation tracking via barcode scanning with support for self-checkout procedures

• Inventory via handheld barcode scanning

• Report generating capability
